Initiated in 1991, the world Day of the diabetes, which is organized by the International federation of diabetes (FID) and is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), will take place this Friday November 14, 2008 in 160 countries.
At present, the diabetes affects 246 million people in the world. These figures are however in constant progression. One estimates indeed at 350 millions the number of diabetics in twenty years. On the few 500.000 children reached of diabetes of the type 1 in the world, approximately a fifth lives in Europe.
In France, three million people is reached, that is to say 100 % more over than ten years ago. For the European Union, the elucidation of the causes of Type 1 diabetes remains a priority and the Seventh Framework programme encourages research initiatives for the control and treatment of this disabling disease.
The Euro-Thymaide projects constitutes for this reason one of the important founding in research adressing the causes of autoimmune diseases such as Type 1 at the level of the Thymus
